Home Built Canoe Hoist

Hah! REI wanted $100 bucks for a set of pulleys to put the canoe on the ceiling. A 25$ Home Depot gift card was all I needed to set one up for myself. Well, that and some hardware I had sitting around.
The trick is to use multiple pulleys to give yourself leverage. The new (used) canoe is pretty heavy -- probably 80 lbs or so. And awkward! Now it lives conveniently out of the way on the ceiling of the garage....

Looks impressive! Must have been fun to design it!

You might want to make a couple of slings using 2" hose from the hardware. If you support the canoe in a couple of places away from the ends there would be less chance of warping the canoe.
